Students at Kiambu National Polytechnic have received practical digital and career skills through the Safaricom Hook Circle programme, aimed at preparing young people for emerging opportunities in the rapidly evolving job market.
The two-day programme brought together students for hands-on learning, career conversations, mentorship sessions and technology demonstrations designed to expose them to opportunities beyond traditional employment.
Participants received training in digital technology, entrepreneurship, Agritech and other emerging career fields through sessions facilitated by Safaricom Hook, DigiFarm, Power Learn Project, Advanced Mobility Center and other industry experts.
The initiative highlighted how technology is reshaping industries, creating new employment opportunities and enabling entrepreneurship through digital innovation. Students also explored how digital tools are transforming agriculture and other sectors, opening up new income-generating opportunities.
Speaking during the programme, Safaricom Chief Consumer Business Officer Fawzia Ali Kimanthi said partnerships between industry and learning institutions are essential in equipping young people with relevant skills for the future.
“By bringing industry closer to learning institutions, we can help students better understand the opportunities available to them and the skills they need to pursue those opportunities, whether through employment, entrepreneurship or continued learning,” she said.
The engagement is part of the Safaricom Hook Circle programme, launched in 2023 to connect young people with skills development, mentorship and access to opportunities aligned with the changing world of work.
According to Safaricom, the programme has reached more than one million young people across Meru, Mombasa, Nairobi, Kakamega, Siaya and Nyeri counties.
As digital transformation continues to redefine the labour market, Safaricom says the initiative seeks to equip more young Kenyans with practical skills, industry exposure and career guidance to help them make informed decisions about their future careers.
