Absa Bank Kenya has renewed its strategic partnership with the Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) to empower digital creators, strengthen financial literacy, and support the growth of Kenya’s rapidly expanding creator economy.
The partnership will see Absa sponsor the Business Category at the BAKE Awards 2026 while rolling out financial and digital literacy programmes targeting bloggers, content creators, influencers, digital entrepreneurs, and young people across the country.
The collaboration comes as Kenya continues to position itself as one of Africa’s leading digital economies, driven by growth in mobile financial services and online entrepreneurship. However, despite rising access to formal financial services, gaps remain in financial knowledge and skills.
According to the 2024 FinAccess Household Survey, formal financial inclusion in Kenya increased to 84.8 per cent of adults, up from 83.7 per cent in 2021. Despite this progress, only 42.1 per cent of Kenyans are considered financially literate, highlighting the need for increased investment in financial education, particularly among young people and digital entrepreneurs.
The partnership aims to address these gaps by equipping digital creators with practical skills in personal finance management, savings and investment, business management, entrepreneurship, cybersecurity awareness, online safety, and responsible digital engagement.
Speaking on the partnership, Absa Bank Kenya Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs Mwihaki Wachira said the collaboration reflects the bank’s commitment to enabling young people to benefit from opportunities in the digital economy.
“Our ongoing partnership with BAKE is a deliberate step towards empowering Kenya’s growing community of digital creators and entrepreneurs. As the digital economy continues to expand, it is critical that young people are equipped not only with creative skills but also with the financial knowledge and tools needed to build sustainable livelihoods,” Wachira said.
She added that through the bank’s NextGen agenda, Absa aims to advance financial inclusion and support young people to actively participate in the digital economy.
The BAKE Awards, now in their 10th edition, have grown into one of Kenya’s leading platforms for recognising excellence in digital content creation. The awards celebrate individuals and organisations using online platforms to inform, educate, entertain, and inspire audiences.
Since their launch, the awards have expanded from 14 categories to 23 categories, recognising achievements across blogs, podcasts, social media platforms, and other digital content channels.
Through the renewed partnership, Absa will sponsor the BAKE Awards 2026 Business Category, which recognises creators and digital publishers providing valuable insights on business, investment, entrepreneurship, and economic issues affecting Kenyan audiences.
BAKE Chairperson Kennedy Kachwanya said the partnership comes at a crucial time as digital creators increasingly contribute to Kenya’s economy through content-driven businesses.
“The creator economy is one of the fastest-growing sectors in Kenya, creating opportunities for employment, innovation, and civic participation. As digital creators increasingly build businesses around their content, financial literacy becomes just as important as creative talent,” Kachwanya said.
He noted that the partnership will help creators develop the financial and digital skills needed to establish sustainable careers and businesses.
By combining BAKE’s expertise in digital rights, online engagement, and content creation with Absa’s financial education initiatives, the partnership seeks to build a more inclusive and financially empowered digital community in Kenya.
