Uganda Confirms Two New Ebola Cases in Kampala, Taking total to Nine

Uganda’s Ministry of Health has confirmed two new cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Kampala, raising the total number of confirmed infections in the country to nine, including one death.

In a statement issued on May 29, 2026, Director General of Health Services Prof. Olaro Charles said the two confirmed patients are Congolese nationals.

According to the ministry, one of the patients presented with symptoms consistent with Ebola and was immediately isolated by rapid response teams once the symptoms were detected. Health officials noted that all contacts linked to the patient have been identified and placed under close monitoring.

The second confirmed case was identified as a contact of a previously confirmed Ebola patient.

The Ministry of Health said surveillance and response measures have been intensified to contain the spread of the disease and protect public health.

Authorities also urged the public to remain vigilant and seek immediate medical attention upon experiencing Ebola-related symptoms, including sudden fever, fatigue, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, and unexplained bleeding.

“If you or someone you know has these symptoms, call our toll-free number immediately. When an individual reports early, the chances of survival are high,” the ministry stated.

Uganda continues to strengthen its Ebola response amid heightened regional surveillance and public health preparedness efforts.
