Bondo United and Margina starlets from Siaya County were crowned champions of the Tujiamini Cheza Dimba Tournament powered by SportPesa after edging out Migori-based Awendo FC 1-0 in the Nyanza regional finals held on Sunday at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

The decisive goal came in the 32nd minute when Awendo’s Clinton Ochieng turned the ball into his own net under heavy pressure from Bondo United’s attack. The Siaya side dominated most of the match, maintaining composure to secure the regional crown.

In the women’s final, Magina Starlets, under coach Hamisi Daudi, triumphed 1-0 against Masosa Starlets from Nyamira. Scolastica netted the lone goal in the 16th minute after a brilliant solo run that sealed Magina’s victory.

“The game was tough because our opponents were really good. We created more chances but didn’t capitalize fully. However, our persistence paid off with the goal that gave us victory. This win means a lot to our team, and we’re grateful to SportPesa for organizing this tournament,” said Nora Peter of Magina Starlets.

Earlier in the semifinals, Bondo United defeated Sindo Select FC 2-0, while Awendo FC advanced after a thrilling 5-4 penalty shootout win over Bobaracho FC.

As regional champions, Bondo United received KES 250,000 annually for the next three years plus home and away kits. Magina Starlets took home a KES 50,000 prize to support training equipment. Both teams also earned places in a three-year mentorship program under SportPesa’s Tujiamini platform, which supports grassroots football development.

“These tournaments are vital for grassroots football. The prize money motivates players and helps teams grow. We thank SportPesa for this initiative, which will support us as we prepare to join Division One,” said Bondo United Head Coach Eric Tutem.

The Nyanza regional tournament featured eight teams, six men’s and two women’s, battling for top honours.

“Tujiamini is more than a platform. It is a movement that nurtures belief and rewards potential. From sports to community initiatives, it stands as an incubator for talent and growth. Each leg has shown us that when people believe in themselves, greatness follows, and many of those we started with are still rising today.” Said Japhet Akhulia, Head of Partnership and Sponsorship SportPesa.

During the event, SportPesa also recognized outstanding community champions through the Tujiamini Community Awards. Jacob Omulo of Nyorwa CBO (Homa Bay) won the Gold Award and KES 1 million, while Joash Ochieng, Joseph Okal, and John Apollo each received KES 100,000 as Silver Winners. Additionally, 50 Bronze Awardees earned KES 10,000 each for their impact-driven work.

The Tujiamini Cheza Dimba Tournament now heads to Bomet County on November 15, 2025, where eight teams will battle for the Rift Valley regional title.
