This is Digital launches Kenya’s first inclusive AI literacy program

In celebration of International Artificial Intelligence Appreciation Day. This is Digital, a leading organization championing digital inclusion, hosted an impactful AI Appreciation Breakfast in Nairobi while unveiling Kenya’s first inclusive AI Literacy Program.

Held under the theme “The Age of AI: A Reality Check”, the event brought together an intimate assembly of industry leaders, tech innovators, and policy influencers at The Social House in Nairobi.

The breakfast served as a moment of reflection and dialogue on how artificial intelligence is transforming lives. Additionally, it’s reshaping industries and redefining the future of work in Africa.

Diverse voices unpack AI across industries

Keynote speaker Moses Kemibaro, Founder of Dotsavvy, set the tone with an insightful address on Africa’s digital evolution and the urgent need for localized AI solutions. The event also featured contributions from high-profile speakers, including Hon. Ndindi Nyoro, MP for Kiharu Constituency, and Susan Makau of the International School of Advertising. A dynamic panel explored AI’s real-world applications across key sectors

Eugene Mbugua, Founder of D&R Studios, delved into AI’s role in revolutionizing entertainment.

Caroline Kendi, Founder of CK Marketing, unpacked AI’s disruptive influence on marketing strategies.

Dr. Catherine Gathu, Head of Family Medicine at Aga Khan University. Discussed AI in healthcare delivery and diagnostics;

Philip Muigai, Digital Learning Developer at Cloud Factory. He addressed the integration of AI in human resources and workforce development.

Launch of AI literacy program

The event set the stage for the launch of This is Digital’s AI Literacy Program. It’s scheduled to commence on August 5, 2025. Designed to bridge the AI knowledge gap. The program will provide practical, ethical, and context-specific AI training for professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, and students.

The program will include:

Online AI Bootcamps: Every Tuesday in August (5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th), from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

In-Person AI Bootcamp: Three-day intensive training from August 27th to 29th

Monthly Cohorts: Ongoing sessions (both online and in-person) to build a sustainable learning ecosystem

Kenya ranked 6th in Africa in the 2024 Oxford Insights AI Readiness Index. The country is well-positioned to lead the continent in equitable and innovative AI adoption. This is Digital aims to empower communities not just to keep pace with the AI revolution, but to shape its future actively.

“This isn’t just about technology, it’s about inclusion, ethics, and leadership in a digital age,” said a representative from This is Digital. “We want to ensure that Kenyans are not just consumers of AI but creators and regulators too.”

The AI Literacy Program is expected to play a pivotal role in preparing Kenya’s workforce and institutions for an increasingly AI-driven world.
