Yaba’s ‘Zitakazopendwa’ Live EP unites Rhumba Legends

In a night that will go down in Kenya’s musical history, the Crown Prince of Nairobi, Boni Nyaga, joined legendary Les Wanyika band leader Sijali Zuwa at the highly anticipated live recording of Zitakazopendwa. The new EP by rising Rhumba star Yaba.

Held in Nairobi, the event was a vibrant tribute to Kenya’s golden era of music, blending the classic soul of bands like Les Wanyika, Maroon Commandos, and the timeless vocals of Daudi Kabaka with a fresh, modern sound.

The result was a cross-generational musical experience that thrilled seasoned fans and new listeners.

Yaba, widely regarded as the Prince of Rhumba, took to the stage backed by a 12-piece band, delivering a performance rich in rhythm, nostalgia, and cultural pride.

The EP’s name, Zitakazopendwa—Swahili for “The Ones That Will Be Loved”—reflected the night’s purpose: to honour Kenya’s musical roots while reimagining them for today’s audience.

With expert lighting, immersive sound engineering, and tight stage direction. The production quality set a new benchmark for live music recordings in Kenya.

The concert’s all-star lineup included Sauti Sol’s Savara, celebrated guitarist Brian Sigu, soulful vocalist Coaster Ojwang, and Kikuyu fusion sensation Ayrosh. Each brought a unique flavour to the evening’s diverse musical palette.

The electric crowd, a mix of music veterans and younger fans, danced and sang along as history unfolded on stage.
