The government through the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation lauches Water, Electricity, and Renewable Energy Expo (WEPEX) 2025, setting the stage for a transformative dialogue on critical sectors shaping Africa’s economic and social future. The expo is poised to be a game-changer for sustainable water and energy solutions in Sub-Saharan Africa.

With over 226 million people in Eastern and Southern Africa lacking access to basic drinking water services, and millions more suffering from unreliable electricity access, WEPEX 2025 comes at a crucial time. The expo aims to bridge investment and technological gaps, introducing innovative solutions such as solar-powered water supply systems, geothermal energy advancements, and smart grid technologies.

The event is strongly supported by the governments of Kenya, Egypt, and other African nations, alongside key private sector players. It will serve as a global platform for public-private partnerships, investment matchmaking, and technology transfer in water, electricity, and renewable energy.

As Africa’s urban and industrial expansion accelerates, demand for water and energy is skyrocketing. The continent holds vast untapped renewable energy resources—including hydro, geothermal, wind, and solar power—that could drive economic growth if properly harnessed. However, investment challenges persist, including political instability, weak governance, and inadequate financing mechanisms.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Ehud Gachugu, Acting Deputy CEO of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), emphasized the expo’s critical role in shaping Africa’s economic future.

“This expo brings together governments, investors, and technology providers to find sustainable solutions. We must bridge gaps in energy and water access to unlock Africa’s full economic potential.”

WEPEX 2025 is expected to bring together over eight international country pavilions showcasing cutting-edge technologies in water and renewable energy. Stakeholders including government ministries, development partners, NGOs, and private sector leaders will engage in knowledge-sharing sessions, B2B matchmaking, and high-level policy discussions.

Moreover the expo is expected to foster bilateral partnerships, technology transfer, and foreign investment in Africa’s water and energy sectors. The expo, set for September 3-5 at KICC, will facilitate MOUs, training programs, and benchmarking missions.

Addressing the press, Andrew M. Kinyua, Director of National Water Resources at the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, highlighted Kenya’s challenges and commitment to reforms in the water sector.

“Kenya is classified as a water-scarce country, with per capita water availability below 1,000 cubic meters. However, we are working with the private sector and international partners to develop solutions such as decentralized wastewater treatment and sustainable water management systems.”

He emphasized the need for investment in affordable water recycling solutions and highlighted government efforts to attract private sector participation through public-private partnerships (PPPs).

Mohammed Jarah, Secretary General of the Arab Union for International Exhibitions and Conferences, reiterated the global significance of WEPEX 2025, with strong participation from Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, and other Arab nations.

“WEPEX is Africa’s most important event in water, electricity, and renewable energy. It fosters international collaboration and innovation, which are key to solving Africa’s energy and water challenges.”

Meanwhile, Florence Sugut of IKAPA Media emphasized the importance of adopting Egypt’s advanced water coverage technologies to ensure universal access to clean water in Kenya and across Africa.

WEPEX 2025 is more than just an exhibition—it is a catalyst for Africa’s sustainable future. By bringing together governments, private sector players, investors, and technology providers, the expo sets the stage for transformative partnerships in water and renewable energy.

With Africa’s rising population, rapid urbanization, and increasing industrialization, the need for sustainable energy and water solutions has never been greater. WEPEX 2025 provides a unique opportunity to address these challenges through investment, innovation, and collaboration.

Mark your calendars: September 3rd – 5th, 2025, at KICC, Nairobi. This is an event that promises to shape the future of Africa’s water and energy sectors for generations to come.
