Umoja Party sets roadmap for 2027 elections in national delegates conference

2 Mins read

The Umoja Summit Party has unveiled its strategic roadmap for the 2027 general elections, affirming its commitment to field candidates for all political positions, including the presidency. This was announced during a press briefing ahead of the party’s National Delegates Conference (NDC), scheduled to take place tomorrow.

Addressing the media, the party’s Secretary General Prof. Barack Muluka emphasized the need for a paradigm shift in Kenya’s political landscape. “For a very long time, others have acted, and we have reacted. That will no longer be the case. We intend to act, and others will react,” said Muluka underlining the party’s resolve to take a proactive role in shaping the nation’s political future.

Umoja Summit’s team leader, Naomi Sidi, reflected on the party’s journey, noting that it was among the few that fielded a presidential candidate in the 2022 elections. “It’s been three years since we began, and tomorrow’s meeting is a significant part of our roadmap to 2027. After the NDC, we will hit the ground running to recruit members and prepare candidates for the elections,” she stated.

The party leader, Godfrey Kanoti, highlighted the urgency of addressing governance failures and restoring hope among Kenyans, particularly the youth. “We are holding this NDC at a critical moment when governance systems are failing, and citizens, especially young people, are feeling hopeless. Our goal is to give them a platform where their voices can be heard and action can be taken,” he declared.

Kanoti criticized the current government, accusing it of dishonesty and inefficiency. He pointed out the country’s economic struggles, including the failure of the new medical insurance scheme and youth unemployment. “We are tired of a lying government, a dormant cabinet, and institutions that do not function. Our mission is to build a government that works, where leaders serve the whole country and not just their regions,” he said.

When asked about potential candidates for 2027, the party remained tight-lipped, stating that official declarations would be made during and after the NDC. “The field is open for anyone interested in running for office, from MCA to the presidency. We will have fair nominations, and we expect strong candidates to emerge,” Kanoti affirmed.

The party also responded to concerns about youth representation in its leadership, assuring Kenyans that the NDC would showcase young leaders stepping up to take charge. “Our day begins tomorrow. You will see a vibrant representation of youth leadership in our party,” the leaders reassured.
