Six Lives Lost After Deadly Collision Along Eldoret-Nakuru Road

At least Six people have died, and several others sustained injuries following a horrific road accident at Kondoo area along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway on Saturday morning.

The accident involved a lorry, a public service vehicle (PSV) travelling towards Nakuru and another vehicle identified as a Succeed. The collision occurred when the lorry driver reportedly attempted to avoid an oncoming Succeed vehicle but ended up crashing into the PSV.

Among those who lost their lives was the driver of the PSV, who died at the scene alongside five other victims. The crash left several passengers injured, raising fresh concerns about road safety along one of the region’s busy transport routes.

Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani confirmed the accident, providing details of the incident and the casualties. He said emergency responders rushed the injured victims to different health facilities for medical attention. Meanwhile, authorities moved the bodies of those who died to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary in Eldoret, where they were taken for preservation and further procedures.

The matatu, which belonged to North Rift Sacco, was reportedly carrying 10 passengers at the time of the accident. The truck, identified as a Mercedes-Benz Actros, first struck the Toyota Succeed before hitting the matatu. The force of the collision pushed the two smaller vehicles into a ditch, leaving them badly damaged.

According to reports, the six victims, including five female passengers and the matatu driver, died at the scene. Authorities had not established the identities of all the victims or confirmed the exact number of injured passengers by the time of reporting.

Police officers visited the scene and launched investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal collision. The wreckage was also expected to be towed to Burnt Forest Police Station for inspection as part of the investigations.  Sicharani urged motorists to remain vigilant, observe traffic regulations and exercise caution while driving to prevent further loss of lives.

The latest crash adds to the growing number of fatal road accidents reported across the country, putting renewed attention on responsible driving, proper vehicle maintenance and strict observance of road safety rules.
