Safaricom’s Sambaza Furaha Campaign lights up Tharaka Nithi with healing, hope and holiday cheear

Safaricom’s ongoing commitment to transforming lives across Kenya marked another milestone as the Sambaza Furaha Campaign concluded in Mountain Region with a medical camp at Rubate Teachers Training College in Tharaka Nithi County.
The event, organized by the M-Pesa Foundation in collaboration with Zuri Health and Lion Sight First Eye Hospital, brought essential medical services to approximately 1,900 residents.
The camp offered a wide array of medical services, including eye care consultations, breast cancer screening, dental care, general consultations, and specialized women’s health services. In addition to healthcare services, the M-Pesa Foundation distributed 100 Mama Packs at Chuka County Referral Hospital. These packs, containing essentials like pampers and sanitary towels, were designed to support both new mothers and expectant women.
“This medical camp in Tharaka Nithi marked the culmination of a week-long series of activities in this region, celebrating and spreading Christmas cheer to our customers through the Sambaza Furaha Campaign,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC. “We were delighted to see such a large turnout, with many people coming to take advantage of the free medical checkups we are offering.”
The medical camp in Tharaka Nithi was the 19th hosted by the M-Pesa Foundation under the second phase of its medical initiative. To date, over 33,000 individuals from counties including Nairobi, Siaya, Migori, Kajiado, Nakuru, Bomet, Kisii, Bungoma, Kericho, Murang’a, Turkana, and Machakos have benefited from these camps.
In this phase, 24 patients with diabetes and hypertension received free medication for two years, while another 24 individuals were registered and onboarded onto Safaricom Healthcare Access (SHA) to receive free medical cover for one year.
In addition to healthcare services, the Sambaza Furaha Campaign spread festive cheer across the Mt. Kenya region with activities designed to give back to Safaricom’s loyal customers. Safaricom teams traversed Murang’a, Meru, Embu, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Nanyuki, and Chuka, distributing gifts such as goats, chickens, food hampers, and airtime.
“This campaign is a testament to Safaricom’s unwavering commitment to uplifting communities and creating shared value for our customers. It’s also a celebration of 24 years of transforming lives,” added Ndegwa.
Beyond healthcare and festive giveaways, Safaricom hosted Safaricom Hook workshops in Thika, aimed at equipping small business owners with tools to grow their enterprises. Stakeholder engagements were also held in Laikipia, Meru, and Nyeri Counties to strengthen relationships with local communities and partners.
As Safaricom celebrates 24 years of operations, the Sambaza Furaha Campaign has underscored its impact on Kenyan lives. From healthcare initiatives to festive cheer and business empowerment, the company continues to demonstrate its commitment to building a better and healthier society.
The success of the Tharaka Nithi medical camp and the broader campaign reaffirms Safaricom’s position as a cornerstone of positive change in Kenya.
