Safaricom Updates OneApp With Bonga, Roaming and Accessibility Features

Safaricom has rolled out version 5.2.0 of My OneApp, giving customers an easier way to redeem Bonga points, manage roaming and personalise the application for better readability.

The latest upgrade strengthens the role of My OneApp as a single digital destination for M-PESA services, connectivity, loyalty rewards, home fibre management and other Safaricom offerings.

Rather than forcing customers to move between USSD menus, customer care and different digital channels, the new version brings several everyday services closer to the user’s fingertips.

At the heart of the update is Lipa na Bonga, a feature that allows customers to redeem their accumulated Bonga points directly within My OneApp to pay for eligible products and services.

For many customers, Bonga points are rewards that accumulate quietly over time, sometimes forgotten until they expire or become difficult to redeem. Integrating the service into My OneApp could change that by placing the loyalty balance alongside the services customers already use regularly.

Previously, customers could use USSD codes such as *126# and other menus to manage their Bonga rewards. The new integration provides a more visible and convenient route to using points.

The update also introduces Dynamic Fonts, addressing a different but equally important part of the customer experience—readability.

With the feature, text within My OneApp automatically responds to the font-size settings selected on a user’s device. Customers who prefer larger text can therefore navigate the application more comfortably.

For someone checking an M-PESA transaction, purchasing a data bundle or reviewing account information, a more readable interface can make routine digital interactions less frustrating.

Safaricom is also making life easier for customers who travel outside Kenya through the new Manage Roaming feature.

Travellers can now activate or deactivate roaming directly from the application without having to contact customer care. The service can be switched on before departure or during a trip and turned off after returning home.

Complementing the roaming controls is the EA Roaming Bundle, which provides connectivity across East African markets through a single regional option.

This could prove particularly useful for Kenyans travelling between Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda for business, employment, education or leisure.

My OneApp was launched earlier in 2026 as a unified platform bringing together mobile money, airtime, data bundles, Bonga points, mini-apps and other services.

Version 5.2.0 expands that vision by making the application less of a transaction platform and more of a personal mobile-service centre.

The update became available on the Apple App Store around mid-August 2026, with the Android build also appearing shortly afterwards, although rollout timing may vary.

For customers, the significance of the upgrade lies in small conveniences that can make daily life easier—from finally using forgotten Bonga points to adjusting text size and staying connected across East Africa without calling customer care.
