Safaricom kicks off christmas campaign ‘Sambaza Furaha’ with festive cheer across Kenya

Nairobi, November 9, 2024 — Leading Kenyan telecommunications company, Safaricom, has launched its annual Christmas campaign, Sambaza Furaha, aimed at spreading joy and rewarding customers across the country.

The festive campaign, which was inaugurated at Ndumberi Primary School in Kiambu County, marks the beginning of a five-week tour across Kenya to celebrate and give back to the community as Safaricom commemorates its 24th anniversary.

A journey of gratitude and giving back

The Sambaza Furaha campaign is designed to bring festive cheer to communities by rewarding customers with a variety of gifts, including goats (mbuzi), chickens, food hampers, airtime, and more.

Speaking at the launch, Safaricom CEO Dr. Peter Ndegwa emphasized the company’s commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of Kenyans during the holiday season.

“Safaricom has a longstanding commitment to supporting the communities we serve. This Christmas, we want to bring joy and gratitude to our customers, who have been our pillars of support over the past 24 years,” said Dr. Ndegwa. “We aim to spread festive cheer, especially to the underprivileged, and to show our appreciation for the trust and loyalty our customers have shown us.”

The Sambaza Furaha Caravan will travel through Kenya’s major regions, starting in the Rift Valley on November 11. The tour will proceed to Mt. Kenya, Greater Western Kenya, Nairobi, and conclude at the Coast. The caravan will engage customers through various community activities, including free medical camps, business clinics, youth workshops, and dealer engagements, reinforcing Safaricom’s commitment to empowering local communities.

Safaricom Director of Customer Obsession, Lucila Veva, highlighted the significance of the campaign, noting that it is not just about rewarding customers but also about listening to their needs and providing solutions. “Our team has been on the ground since early morning, preparing meals and sharing with the community. We want our customers to feel appreciated and celebrated for their loyalty,” she said.

Gifts and surprises for customers

Residents of Ndumberi, where the campaign was launched, were treated to a day of excitement, with gifts ranging from goats and chickens to airtime and food hampers. One of the lucky recipients, Samuel Mwaura Njuguna, expressed his gratitude after winning a goat. “I am very happy. This is the first time I’ve received such a gift. It will make our Christmas special this year,” said Njuguna.

Another winner, Patrick Njonge, a disabled shoemaker from Ndumberi, was also gifted with a goat. “I never imagined I would be remembered like this. Safaricom has shown kindness that I did not expect. I am very thankful,” Njonge shared.

The gifts symbolize the spirit of the festive season, reflecting Safaricom’s mission to uplift and bring joy to its customers.

Community engagement and new initiatives

Beyond gifting, the Sambaza Furaha campaign also includes community outreach programs. Safaricom has planned several activities such as S-Hook workshops for the youth, where they will be trained in digital skills and entrepreneurship. The campaign will also see the launch of new franchise shops in various regions, aimed at making Safaricom’s services more accessible.

The tour began with cheerful moment at Ndumberi Primary school, where Safaricom staff shared meals and distributed gifts to the less fortunate. This act of kindness set the tone for the entire campaign, which aims to bring people together and make the festive season memorable for everyone.
