PROTO Energy, gobeba signs MOU to revolutionize clean cooking energy delivery in Kenya

PROTO Energy has announced a strategic partnership with gobeba, a last-mile delivery technology company. The partnership aims to expand access to clean, safe, and genuine LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) while offering unparalleled delivery convenience to households across Nairobi and eventually the country.

The partnership was unveiled during a joint media briefing at Proto Limited Energy Headquarters in Almary Business Park. Leaders from both companies emphasized their commitment to innovation, sustainability, and customer safety.

Speaking during the signing of MOU, Tim Jessop Chief Commercial Officer at Proto Energy noted that this partnership encompasses what has been setting out to be done over the years and make the product available quickly, efficiently, and safely.

“With the gobeba team, we ensure customers are getting genuine PROTO gas delivered seamlessly to their doorsteps. This is a big step forward for us as we expand nationwide.”

Founded seven years ago, PROTO Energy has emerged as one of Kenya’s largest players in the LPG market. The company is responding to increasing demand for cleaner fuels as Kenya transitions away from traditional biomass and fossil fuel usage. LPG is considered a cleaner, more efficient solution for cooking, heating, and other domestic energy needs.

Jessop highlighted that safety and authenticity remain at the core of PROTO’s mission, noting the use of unique seals, barcodes, and serialized cylinders to verify genuine PROTO products. “Through the right ordering process, customers can be 100 percent assured of product authenticity and safety,” he said.

On the other side of the partnership, gobeba brings a robust logistics and technology platform designed to simplify urban delivery services.

“Today is a great day for gobeba and PROTO Energy. For too long, customers have struggled to access both convenience and authenticity when it comes to gas delivery. Today, we’ve nailed it. This partnership is about scaling up and making safe, genuine LPG accessible at the flip of a button.” said Diang’ui, co-founder of gobeba

Echoing these sentiments, Lesley Mbogo, co-founder and Co-CEO of gobeba, emphasized the shared values driving the collaboration: “Both companies are committed to ensuring safe, quick, and genuine access to cooking energy for our customers. By bringing together our logistics infrastructure and PROTO’s leadership in clean energy, we’re delivering something truly impactful.”

This initiative is part of broader sustainability and clean energy efforts both companies are undertaking.

As Kenya pushes toward more sustainable energy solutions, partnerships like this are critical in driving adoption and accessibility of clean fuel alternatives for urban and peri-urban households.

With PROTO Energy’s scale and gobeba’s innovative logistics network, the partnership is expected to roll out across Nairobi before expanding to other regions.
