PPRA Unveils Enhanced Public Procurement Information Platform for Greater Transparency and Efficiency

Nairobi, Kenya – 7th August 2024:The Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) has unveiled an upgraded version of the Public Procurement Information Platform (PPIP) in a launch event attended by key figures in the public and private sectors.

This enhanced platform, developed in collaboration with GIZ and iLabAfrica of Strathmore University, aims to advance transparency and efficiency in Kenya’s public procurement processes.

The event featured notable speakers, including Dr. Joseph Sevilla, Director of iLabAfrica, Hon. Jimmy Kahindi, Chairman of PPRA, Mr. George Murugu, Chairman of the Public Procurement Administrative Review Board (PPARB), Mr. Patrick Wanjuki, Director General of PPRA, Dr. Edwin Wanyonyi, Deputy Director Strategy and Planning of KISM, Mary Awino, Senior Deputy Director of the Public Procurement Directorate, and Mr. Thomas Ansorg, Cluster Coordinator for Governance, Peace, and Security at GIZ Kenya.

Originally launched in July 2018 following Executive Order No.2 of 2018, the PPIP was designed to track procurement processes from tender calls through to the resolution of complaints. The latest upgrades, completed by iLabAfrica, introduce several new features to enhance the platform’s functionality. These include advanced tender viewing options, improved visibility of contract awards, and automated account approvals for procuring entities.

Jimmy Kahindi Chairman of PPRA highlighted the platform’s role in ensuring transparency and accountability in procurement. “The enhanced PPIP demonstrates our dedication to procurement integrity and user satisfaction. In a data-driven world, robust and transparent systems like the enhanced PPIP are essential for building trust and meeting expectations.” Hon. Kahindi stated

Mr. Patrick Wanjuki emphasized the platform’s importance in the current climate of heightened demand for government transparency, stating that it ensures proper documentation of tendering processes.

“Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards greater transparency, efficiency, and inclusiveness in Public Procurement.” wanjuki said

Mr. George Murugu noted that the portal aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 by promoting a transparent and accountable procurement process.

Mr. Thomas Ansorg praised the platform’s advancements, describing them as a significant leap towards an open and accountable public procurement system. Dr. Joseph Sevilla of iLabAfrica also expressed enthusiasm, noting that the upgraded system, aligned with the Open Contracting Data Standard (OCDS), represents a major improvement over the original version.

Currently, the system supports approximately 1500 registered procurement entities and aims to expand this number significantly. This launch marks a crucial step towards enhancing public procurement efficiency and accountability in Kenya.
