Police Raid Jimi Wanjigi’s Muthaiga Home Amid Nane Nane Protests, Suspicious Vehicle Confisticated

In a dramatic escalation of events in Nairobi, police raided the residence of businessman and politician Jimi Wanjigi this afternoon. The raid coincides with ongoing Nane Nane protests that have been intensifying in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

Eyewitnesses reported that a black vehicle arrived at Wanjigi’s home, briefly parked near the gate, and occupant left. Police arrived at the scene within ten minutes. Following their arrival, officers from both the police force and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) set up a perimeter around the property.

At the scene, authorities discovered a black Toyota Land Cruiser TX, registration number KDC 883R, which was found abandoned near Wanjigi’s gate. Police removed electronic gadgets, including a walkie-talkie, from the vehicle for further examination. The connection between the vehicle and the raid has not yet been clarified.

The reasons for the raid remain unclear, fueling speculation about possible links between Wanjigi’s business and political activities and the current unrest.

The “Nane Nane” protests, have evolved into broader demonstrations against alleged government corruption and inefficiencies. The CBD has become a focal point for these protests, with participants voicing strong criticisms of the government.

Jimi Wanjigi’s son, Maina Wanjigi, indicated that this is not the first instance of police raiding their home. Meanwhile, Wanjigi’s lawyer has refrained from commenting on the specifics of the investigation, including the whereabouts and safety of Jimi Wanjigi.

Both police and DCI officials remain stationed outside Wanjigi’s residence, and further updates are anticipated. Authorities have committed to providing additional information to journalists as the situation develops. The implications of the raid and its impact on Nairobi’s political landscape are still unfolding.
