The Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Equator Tour has arrived at Mt. Kipipiri Golf & Resort for its third leg, bringing together 43 elite professional golfers for four days of high-stakes competition.
The tournament, running from August 14 to 17, is part of a three-year high-performance development programme aimed at elevating Kenya’s golfing standards and preparing players for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
The tour began with a thrilling debut at Ruiru Sports Club and proceeded to Limuru Country Club, where Greg Snow claimed victory with a total score of 276 (-12), followed by Safaricom’s Mohit Mediratta at 278 (-10) and Mutahi Kibugu at 280 (-8). NCBA-sponsored Edwin Mudanyi finished sixth with 282 (-6) in a strong regional showing.
NCBA Group Managing Director, John Gachora, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting professional golf, noting its role in building a pathway for Kenyan players to reach the global stage. “Our goal is to actualise the professionals’ dreams of having a stable income and training to focus on their form and eventually raise the Kenyan flag high,” he said.
NCBA, along with other corporate sponsors, is backing players including Mudanyi, Erick Ooko, Abraham Galgallo, and Njuguna Ngugi with tournament entry, training tools, and performance support to enable them to compete internationally.
PGK Chairman, CJ Wangai, emphasised that the tour’s consistent, top-level competition is essential for preparing Kenyan professionals to win on the world stage. “We’re grateful to the corporate sponsors whose support makes this vision a reality,” he said.
The PGK Equator Tour is poised to continue strengthening Kenya’s professional golf scene, with Mt. Kipipiri offering the next test in the country’s journey toward Olympic qualification.
