Nyanza rising: International Investment Conference to unlock region’s economic potential

The Nyanza International Investment Conference is set to take place from February 6th to 8th at Ciala Resort in Kisumu. The conference, themed “Nyanza Rising: Towards Economic Transformation for Socio-Economic Growth and Development,” aims to showcase business opportunities across the blue economy, energy, infrastructure, transport, and tourism sectors in the Nyanza region. The conference will be graced by President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, alongside prominent stakeholders, including 14 governors from the Lake Region Economic Block (LREB), members of parliament, and various professional associations such as the Law Society of Kenya, the Architectural Association of Kenya, and the Kenya Medical Association.

International stakeholders are also expected, with ambassadors from the European Union, USAID representatives, and investors from the United States, India, Korea, and the UK confirming their participation. This robust lineup underscores the global significance of the event.

The conference will highlight the untapped potential of Lake Victoria, focusing on value addition in aquaculture, water-based transport systems to enhance East African trade, and tourism development.

Speaking at a preparatory meeting, Japh Olende, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, emphasized the region’s immense economic opportunities and called on professionals to take an active role in shaping the future of Nyanza.”Professionals must step up and contribute to regional development rather than leaving it solely to politicians,” said Olende.

In a bid to promote inclusivity and empowerment, the conference will host mentorship clinics and exhibitions for youth and women. These sessions aim to foster innovation and provide a platform for showcasing creative ideas.

Patron of the conference and Deputy Chief of Staff Eliud Owalo encouraged youth and women groups to register and actively participate.“Youth and women groups who wish to attend and exhibit their innovations are encouraged to register with the conference organizers,” Owalo stated, expressing optimism about the event’s transformative impact.

The three-day conference will feature plenary and breakaway sessions, exhibitions, and targeted discussions designed to address specific challenges and opportunities within the region. The organizers have extended invitations to professional bodies and private sector players to contribute to actionable solutions for economic growth.

Owalo highlighted the conference’s goal to attract private sector investment to accelerate socio-economic development in Nyanza. By bringing together stakeholders from various sectors, the event seeks to unlock opportunities in infrastructure, transport, tourism, and the blue economy.
