Kerugoya, November 19, 2024 — NCBA Bank has officially opened a new branch in Kerugoya town, Kirinyaga County, marking a significant step in its strategic retail expansion and commitment to empowering local communities. The new branch, located in the Oasis Building, was inaugurated yesterday by Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru in a ceremony graced by NCBA Group Chairman James Ndegwa, the bank’s leadership team, and local area leaders.
The Kerugoya branch is the fifth NCBA branch to open this year, bringing the total number of branches in Kenya to 97, spanning 29 counties. Speaking at the event, Mr. Ndegwa emphasized the bank’s dedication to regional growth and development.
“This is a new beginning not only for NCBA but also for the people of Kirinyaga County,” said Mr. Ndegwa. “With agriculture being the backbone of this region and contributing 72% to household incomes, we are committed to supporting this vital sector and ensuring continued growth and prosperity for the area.”
The Kerugoya branch will provide a wide array of financial products and services tailored to meet the needs of individuals, businesses, and key sectors in the region. These include savings and current accounts, personal and business loans, investment solutions for wholesalers, and asset financing for retailers. Additionally, mobile and internet banking services will enable customers to manage their accounts conveniently from anywhere.
Governor Waiguru praised the new branch, highlighting its potential to transform the local economy.

“With a population of close to 1 million people and a significant number of business operators in the region, this branch marks the start of financial freedom for residents, schools, and businesses,” said Governor Waiguru. “I encourage all Kerugoya residents to leverage the services offered by NCBA to strengthen our county’s economy.”
The branch, staffed by nine highly trained employees, is equipped with modern banking technologies to ensure efficient and customer-focused service delivery. NCBA’s presence in the region aligns with its broader mission to provide accessible financial solutions while fostering economic resilience.
The bank has also introduced innovative services such as NCBA Till, PDQ machines, and robust digital platforms like mobile and online banking to simplify transactions for customers.
As part of its “Change the Story” sustainability initiative, NCBA reaffirmed its commitment to environmental conservation by planting trees at Jivanjee Park in Kerugoya and donating 60 trees to the County Government of Kirinyaga. This initiative contributes to NCBA’s goal of planting 10 million trees by 2030.
The Kerugoya branch is set to play a pivotal role in supporting local agriculture, businesses, and households. By offering comprehensive banking solutions and fostering sustainable development, NCBA aims to empower the people of Kirinyaga County and drive regional prosperity.
