Martha Karua critiques Ruto regime, calls for accountability in Kenyan leadership

1 Mins read

Narc-Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua, expressed grave concerns about the current state of governance under President William Ruto’s administration. She emphasized that Kenyans are increasingly unsafe due to what she described as a regime more focused on authority than on genuine service to the people.

Karua criticized the rising cases of land grabbing in the country, pointing out that both private and public lands are being targeted by corrupt cartels. She accused the state of being captured by these vested interests, undermining the rule of law and the rights of citizens. “Leadership is not an emblem of authority but a mantle of service,” she stated, questioning who among those in power is truly serving the interests of Kenyans.

Highlighting specific incidents of injustice, Karua drew attention to the Masengeli case, where she and other opposition leaders have urged the National Police Service Commission to hold the acting Inspector General of Police, Edward Masengeli, accountable for what they termed contempt of court. They demanded either his resignation or immediate sanctions for allegedly disregarding judicial directives.

Karua lamented the lack of transparency from the government regarding critical incidents, such as the number of deaths reported during the Kware unrest and the recent tragedy in Endarasha, where pupils lost their lives. “The government has not provided accurate numbers regarding these incidents, which raises serious questions about their accountability and transparency,” she said.

Furthermore, she condemned the decision to withdraw security from justice Lawrence Mugambi, calling it a cowardly act intended to intimidate those who uphold the rule of law. “It’s an intimidation act, and security bosses have consistently disobeyed the rule of law,” she asserted, urging the National Police Service to awaken from what she termed a state of slumber.

Karua also addressed the issues plaguing the agricultural sector, specifically coffee, tea, and maize farming in Kenya, criticizing the government’s failure to oversee these crucial industries effectively. She called for a leadership that prioritizes accountability, especially for the youth of the country, who she believes deserve a government that stands for their rights and welfare.

In a pointed reference to the political landscape, she described a “game of politics” exemplified by figures like Adani, whom she labeled a face of the cartel. Karua’s remarks resonate with a growing discontent among Kenyans who are seeking leaders committed to genuine service and accountability.
