Majid Al Futtaim, the exclusive operator of Carrefour in Kenya, has officially opened its 25th store in the country at Runda Mall, Nairobi. This launch marks yet another step in the retailer’s rapid expansion strategy, following the recent opening of a Carrefour outlet in Ruiru last month.
The Runda Mall store covers over 2,500 square meters and offers a diverse range of products, from fresh produce and electronics to essential household items, all while introducing innovative technology to enhance the shopping experience.
The new Carrefour store introduces Carrefour’s self-checkout service to customers in the Runda area. This feature, aimed at increasing convenience and reducing checkout time, allows customers to complete their purchases independently, without the need for cashier assistance.
The Runda Mall store joins four other Carrefour locations across Nairobi—at Westgate Shopping Mall, Village Market, the Hub, and GTC Mall—that also offer this self-service checkout technology.
Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, underscored the company’s commitment to serving diverse consumer needs while supporting Kenya’s economic growth. “Our newest store at Runda Mall allows us to continue serving the diverse needs and preferences of our customers in the area while contributing to the country’s economic development through job creation and promotion of modern retail trade,” Orcet stated.

With the opening of the Runda Mall store, Carrefour Kenya has added 46 new job opportunities to its existing workforce of over 2,600 employees, 99 percent of whom are Kenyan. The expansion reinforces Carrefour’s commitment to promoting local talent and creating employment within the communities it serves.
The retailer’s growth in Kenya also strengthens its ties with local suppliers and producers, giving them greater access to Carrefour’s customer base. Through partnerships with local farmers, manufacturers, and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs), Carrefour supports Kenya’s agricultural and manufacturing sectors, ensuring that customers have access to a range of fresh, high-quality, locally sourced products.
“Expanding our footprint in Kenya is more than just a business decision; it’s a commitment to our customers and to the local economy,” Orcet added. “We are proud to continue collaborating with local suppliers and farmers to bring fresh, high-quality products to our customers every day.”
Carrefour’s presence in Kenya now comprises 25 stores, including 20 in Nairobi, two in Kisumu, and three in Mombasa. This expansion aligns with Majid Al Futtaim’s strategy to solidify Carrefour’s position as a leading retail provider in Kenya, responding to the country’s rising demand for modern, convenient shopping experiences.
Carrefour continues to grow its investment in Kenyan communities and commitment to customer convenience and local sourcing will play a central role in shaping the future of retail in the region.
