LG Electronics East Africa has taken a significant step in its mission to champion environmental protection and sustainability. In a vibrant display of eco-consciousness, 60 LG employees planted 300 indigenous trees in the Sigiria block of the iconic Karura Forest Reserve.

The initiative, a collaboration with Friends of Karura Forest (FKF), is part of LG’s broader commitment to preserving natural environments. FKF, a Community Forest Association renowned for its dedication to Karura’s preservation, lauded the effort.

“Today’s tree-planting exercise reflects our shared commitment to safeguarding our environment. We also aim to use such engagements to inspire positive change and promote a greener, more sustainable future,” said Dongwon Lee, Managing Director of LG East Africa.

The project doesn’t stop at planting; LG has pledged a three-year commitment to care for the seedlings, ensuring their survival and growth. This aligns with the company’s sustainability ethos and long-term environmental policy, which includes ambitious goals like achieving 100 percent renewable energy use by 2050 and complete carbon neutrality by 2030.

Spanning 2,526 acres, Karura Forest is Nairobi’s largest gazetted forest and a cherished urban sanctuary. It boasts stunning features such as three rivers, a towering 49-foot waterfall, bamboo groves, caves, wetlands, and over 31 miles of trails—a haven for nature lovers and conservationists alike.

This tree-planting exercise is just one piece of LG’s broader environmental strategy. By introducing energy-efficient facilities and carbon-reducing technologies, LG is redefining sustainability in business.

“Tree by tree, we’re not only restoring Kenya’s natural beauty but also taking tangible steps to secure a sustainable future,” added Lee.

As the saplings grow, so too does the hope for a greener tomorrow—an enduring legacy nurtured by LG and the Karura Forest community.
