The Prime Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, officially handed over leadership of the Ministry of Interior and National Administration to appointed Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, in a formal ceremony on Thursday. This transition marks a significant step in Kenya’s administrative leadership following Murkomen’s reassignment from the Ministry of Sports, Youth affairs and Creative Economy

Dr. Mudavadi, who served as acting Interior CS for several months, described his time leading the ministry as an invaluable experience that provided him with firsthand insight into its immense responsibilities. “I have shared key insights with Hon. Murkomen to ensure a smooth transition and extended my best wishes to him and the dedicated team of Principal Secretaries,” Mudavadi remarked during the ceremony.

The handover event was attended by Principal Secretaries Dr. Raymond Omollo (State Department for Interior and National Administration), Salome Beacco (Correctional Services), and Professor Julius Bitok (Immigration and Citizen Service), as well as heads of various agencies including the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja under the Ministry of Interior. In his remarks, Dr. Omollo extended a warm welcome to Murkomen, emphasizing the ministry’s commitment to supporting him as he assumes the critical leadership role.

Addressing the press, CS Kipchumba Murkomen expressed gratitude to President William Ruto for entrusting him with the new role and pledged to serve with utmost dedication. “I understand the serious responsibilities bestowed upon me. Like I have done before, I will give my time, energy, and dedication to the people of Kenya,” he stated.

Murkomen acknowledged the foundational work laid by his predecessor, Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki who previously held the position substantively as Interior CS. “I want to thank the Deputy President for his outstanding work in this ministry. I will continue with the strong foundation he has laid to move forward the agenda of His Excellency the President,” he said.

The new Interior CS highlighted the importance of collaboration with technical officers, appreciating their critical role in ensuring the ministry delivers on its mandate. He specifically commended officers serving in immigration, prisons, and the National Police Service for their unwavering dedication to securing the country.

“I will do everything within my powers to ensure their work is facilitated and their duty to this country is honoured,” Murkomen assured.

With the festive season underway, Murkomen urged Kenyans to celebrate responsibly and observe moderation to ensure safety during the holidays. “In every celebration, we must do everything in moderation. Too much of anything is poison,” he advised.

He emphasized road safety, calling on drivers and travelers to adhere to traffic rules, maintain road-worthy vehicles, and avoid overloading. “Let us observe the law, drive within speed limits, and ensure the safety of all road users. By doing so, we lighten the work of officers who are here to facilitate smooth movement across the country.”

Murkomen reiterated his commitment to leading the Ministry of Interior with integrity, transparency, and a focus on service delivery. He called upon media houses to inform the public responsibly, promote national unity, and foster patriotism. “I wish all Kenyans a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May we observe this season responsibly and ensure the safety and well-being of our fellow citizens,” he added.

The event marks the beginning of Murkomen’s tenure at one of Kenya’s most crucial ministries, signaling continuity and renewed energy in addressing national administration and security priorities.

This transition solidifies Murkomen’s new role, with his experience in public service expected to steer the ministry toward achieving President Ruto’s development agenda for the benefit of all Kenyans.
