Kioni urges Jubilee party allies to unite and rise after Court’s green light

The Jubilee Party, once a dominant force in Kenyan politics, has been reinvigorated following a High Court ruling that reinstated the leadership faction led by Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni. In a virtual ruling on September 30, Justice Janet Mulwa nullified the National Executive Committee’s earlier decision that had seen Kioni and other key leaders ousted by a rival faction led by Kanini Kega and Sabina Chege.

Speaking from the Jubilee headquarters in Nairobi, Kioni expressed gratitude for the ruling and extended an olive branch to the opposing faction. “Today, the court has declared the previous decisions null and void. Let us come together to move our party forward,” Kioni stated, highlighting the challenges the party faced over the past two years amidst internal disputes.

Kioni thanked supporters for their loyalty during turbulent times, stating, “Those who doubted, the party is here with us. We welcome all, including those who took us to court.”

The atmosphere was one of relief and optimism among Kioni’s supporters, including Starehe Member of Parliament Amos Mwago. He remarked on the significance of the ruling, saying, “We are happy that our party is back. We have a dog to bark now,” referring to the renewed strength of Kioni’s leadership. Mwago criticized members of Parliament who have aligned with the executive, calling for legislative independence and denouncing the role of Parliament as a “rubber stamp.”

Mwago also noted the challenges faced by parties in the Mt. Kenya region, expressing a desire for unity within the Jubilee Party as they prepare for the 2027 elections. “We are happy that Jubilee is back. Let us build our party to win,” he said, referencing the party’s 32 MPs.

Nyandarua Jubilee Party Chairman Mukuria shared similar sentiments, stating, “We have been patient for a long time. We have been in court for the last two years. Some left, but we now welcome them back to Jubilee.”

Justice Mulwa’s ruling not only reinstated Kioni and Vice Chairperson David Murathe but also affirmed their authority within the party. The judge, however, declined to hold Chege and Kioni in contempt for performing party functions during the leadership dispute.

The former President Uhuru Kenyatta remains the party Leader. According to Kioni Uhuru is still the Kingship of the mountain. ” Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta will continue be our leader and those who thought that Jubilee is dead, sorry we have a new face”he said

With this ruling, the Jubilee Party aims to re-establish itself as a formidable political entity, rallying its members ahead of future elections and calling for unity among its ranks. The path forward appears clearer for Kioni’s faction as they seek to consolidate power and reclaim their position in Kenya’s political landscape.
