The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed that a Kenyan police officer serving under the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) in Haiti has gone missing.
According to NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, the officer was reported missing on March 25, 2025, following an ambush incident at Carrefour Paye Savien along the main supply route in the Pont-Sondé area of the Artibonite Department.
“The Multinational Security Support Mission, in collaboration with the Haitian National Police, is actively conducting a search and rescue operation to locate the missing officer,” Nyaga stated.
This incident comes just a month after another Kenyan police officer was fatally shot during an anti-gang operation in the Artibonite region, highlighting the escalating security risks Kenyan officers face in the troubled Caribbean nation.
Kenya deployed its first batch of officers to Haiti in early 2025 as part of an international effort to help restore order in the gang-ravaged country. The mission, however, has faced significant challenges, with criminal groups intensifying attacks against security forces.
Authorities have assured that all necessary efforts are being made to find the missing officer and ensure the safety of the Kenyan contingent in Haiti.
