Kenya Power unveils foundation to enhance social responsibility efforts

Kenya Power has officially launched the Kenya Power Foundation, a significant step forward in the company’s mission to advance sustainable social responsibility initiatives across all 47 counties in Kenya.
The newly established Foundation is set to receive 1 percent of Kenya Power’s annual after-tax profits over the next five years as seed capital. In addition, it will seek to bolster its financial resources through partnerships and donations to support its social impact programs.
The Foundation’s key focus areas will include Energy and Environment, Education and Skills Development, and Social Investment and Community Wellness. By centralizing and expanding the company’s social responsibility efforts, the Foundation aims to create a broader and more impactful presence in communities nationwide.
Dr. (Eng.) Joseph Siror, Kenya Power’s Managing Director & CEO, highlighted the Foundation’s role in consolidating the company’s CSR activities. “We recognize that as a business, our success is linked to the well-being of the communities we serve. The Foundation will allow us to consolidate and scale the impact of our corporate social initiatives, ensuring that we empower people and create long-term social value,” he said.
Over the past decade, Kenya Power has made substantial contributions through various initiatives, including awarding over 30 full scholarships to underprivileged students, supporting the construction and equipping of more than 60 schools, planting over 600,000 trees, and improving sports facilities and activities.
Logan Hambrick, Patron of the Kenya Power Foundation, emphasized the Foundation’s role in bridging the gap between Kenya Power’s business activities and its social impact. “This Foundation is a testament to the transformative role that corporations can play in uplifting communities. We aim to operate with the belief that every Kenyan, regardless of gender, disability, or background, deserves equal opportunity to benefit from our programs,” Hambrick stated. She further assured that the Foundation’s initiatives will be sustainable and designed to empower communities to achieve self-reliance.
The Foundation’s mandate aligns with national development goals and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that its efforts contribute positively to societal advancement. Joy Brenda Masinde, Chairman of Kenya Power’s Board of Directors, expressed optimism about the Foundation’s potential. “The Kenya Power Foundation that we are launching today is born from our commitment to improve lives and drive change in education, community wellness, access to clean energy, and our relationship with the environment,” Masinde said. She also invited stakeholders to collaborate with the Foundation, stressing the importance of joint efforts in making the initiative impactful and sustainable.
“The Foundation will work to implement innovative solutions that address community challenges and look forward to working with all stakeholders to build a more sustainable future for all,” Masinde added.
The launch of the Kenya Power Foundation marks a pivotal moment in Kenya Power’s commitment to enhancing its CSR efforts and fostering positive, long-term changes across Kenya.
