1 Mins read

The Kenya National Police DT SACCO made a substantial impact on education and community development today by unveiling newly constructed facilities at Utumishi Comprehensive School in Gilgil. The handover ceremony highlighted the cooperative’s significant contribution to enhancing the learning environment and supporting community growth.

In a landmark event, the SACCO, which boasts a robust financial profile with an asset base exceeding Ksh 55 billion, a loan portfolio surpassing Ksh 46 billion, and total deposits over Ksh 32 billion, officially presented the school with state-of-the-art infrastructure. The newly completed projects include several classrooms, a multipurpose hall, and 440 sets of school furniture. These additions are expected to accommodate an additional 800 students and facilitate a broader range of educational and extracurricular activities.

Solomon Atsiaya, CEO of the Kenya National Police DT SACCO, underscored the significance of the investment in his address: “Investing in education is not just a philanthropic act; it is an investment in the future of our nation. This project is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to building a brighter tomorrow for the leaders of tomorrow.”

The initiative comes at a crucial time when 30 percent of Kenyan schools are reported to lack adequate infrastructure, affecting the education of over 4 million students nationwide. By supporting Utumishi Comprehensive School, the SACCO is making strides in addressing this educational divide and ensuring that more students have the opportunity to succeed.

Beyond the construction of physical infrastructure, the SACCO has actively engaged with the local community to ensure that the project aligns with local needs and is sustainable in the long term. Additionally, the SACCO has introduced programs aimed at improving financial literacy among students, helping them make informed financial decisions.

Atsiaya further emphasized the broader implications of the project: “The Kenya National Police DT SACCO’s investment in education sets a new standard for corporate social responsibility in Kenya. By prioritizing the well-being of future generations, the SACCO is demonstrating its commitment to sustainable development and its role as a responsible corporate citizen.”

The project not only addresses critical infrastructure needs but also contributes to the Kenyan government’s goal of achieving universal access to quality education. The SACCO’s initiative serves as a model of how private sector entities can drive meaningful change and support national development objectives.
