Kenya launches ‘Kazi Majuu’ program, opening doors for 4,000 youths to work in Dubai

In a bold move to tackle youth unemployment, the Kenyan government has unveiled a transformative overseas employment initiative, ‘Kazi Majuu,’ that will see more than 4,000 young people from the Coastal region deployed to various jobs in Dubai.

The program was officially launched in Malindi, Kilifi County, where hundreds of enthusiastic jobseekers defied heavy rains to attend the recruitment drive. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, offers opportunities in a variety of sectors including transport, security, hospitality, construction, and clerical work.

Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Alfred Mutua, who officiated the launch, termed the initiative a game-changer for Kenya’s youth.

“We are opening new doors for our young people. This is not just a job opportunity; it is a chance for them to transform their lives and contribute meaningfully to their families and the economy,” said Dr. Mutua.

According to the CS, boda-boda operators under the program will earn up to KSh 80,000 per month, while other positions such as security guards, gardeners, office assistants, and waitstaff will receive salaries ranging from KSh 60,000 and below — a significant income boost for many.

Importantly, applicants without passports were not turned away. Dr. Mutua assured them of expedited passport processing via the government’s e-citizen portal, promising a turnaround time of just three days.

The launch was met with jubilation and hope from jobseekers. Ngala Karisa from Gahaleni hailed the initiative as a “life-changing opportunity.” Susan Albright, who secured a position as an office assistant, called it her long-awaited breakthrough after years of unsuccessful job searches. Meanwhile, Racheal Songoro, selected for a cleaning job, vowed to make the most of the chance:

“My dream is now within reach. I will use this opportunity to uplift myself and contribute to national development,” she said.

The ‘Kazi Majuu’ program is part of the government’s broader strategy to leverage international labour markets, reduce domestic unemployment, and promote skills development. It also aims to ensure Kenyan migrant workers receive fair treatment, competitive pay, and adequate support while abroad.

As Kenya continues to seek innovative ways to address joblessness among the youth, ‘Kazi Majuu’ represents a beacon of hope — a bridge connecting ambition to opportunity beyond borders.
