In a groundbreaking move to combat human trafficking and enhance migrant protection, Kenya Airways and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Kenya have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

This strategic partnership aims to leverage IOM Kenya’s migration governance expertise and Kenya Airways’ extensive aviation network to implement robust measures against trafficking and facilitate regular migration pathways.

The MOU signifies a strong commitment from both organizations to uphold human dignity and support vulnerable individuals on the move. Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Allan Kilavuka, emphasized the airline’s dedication to corporate social responsibility and traveler welfare. “The collaboration with IOM Kenya demonstrates our dedication to corporate social responsibility and the well-being of all travelers. We are committed to providing our staff with the necessary training and resources to assist migrants, particularly those in vulnerable situations,” Kilavuka stated.

Ms. Dimanche Sharon, IOM Chief of Mission, hailed the MOU as a significant milestone in safeguarding migrant rights. “By joining forces with Kenya Airways, we can enhance our outreach and impact, ensuring that migration is safe and beneficial for all,” she noted.

The partnership will focus on several key initiatives:

1. Training and Awareness: Kenya Airways staff will receive specialized training from IOM to recognize and assist migrants in vulnerable situations, improving coordination and response.

2. Policy Development: Joint efforts will be made to advocate for policies that create a safer travel environment and disrupt traffickers’ operations.

3. Information Sharing: A framework for sharing information between the airline and IOM will be established to facilitate timely interventions.

This collaboration represents a significant step toward ensuring the well-being and rights of migrants, contributing to a more inclusive and supportive society. Together, Kenya Airways and IOM Kenya are poised to make a substantial difference in the fight against human trafficking and the protection of migrants.
