KCB drives sustainability agenda ahead of 2025 WRC Safari Rally

With the countdown to the 2025 WRC Safari Rally in full swing, KCB Bank is accelerating its commitment to environmental conservation, seamlessly blending motorsport excitement with sustainability initiatives.

Set to take place from March 20-23 in Naivasha, Nakuru County, the highly anticipated rally will not only showcase top-tier racing talent but also highlight the growing intersection between sports and environmental responsibility. As the event’s lead sponsor, KCB is championing green initiatives, reinforcing its role as a key driver of sustainability in Kenya.

As part of its sustainability push, KCB-sponsored drivers Evans Kavisi and Tinashe Gatimu have taken the lead in promoting environmental conservation efforts. Gatimu, who has been fine-tuning her Subaru GC8 for the competition, joined Kavisi in a tree-planting exercise organized by KCB, underscoring their commitment to leaving a lasting impact beyond the race track.

“Motorsport is about precision, endurance, and resilience—qualities that also define our approach to sustainability,” said Tinashe Gatimu. “As drivers, we are responsible for more than just speed; we must ensure the rally leaves a positive impact on our communities and the environment. As a woman in motorsport, I also want to show that we can lead both on the track and in sustainability efforts that secure a better future for the next generation.”

The tree-planting event at Karuri Primary School and Gachie High School in Nairobi aligns with Kenya’s 15-billion-tree goal by 2032 and KCB’s long-standing commitment to conservation. With KShs. 1 million from its WRC sponsorship directed towards sustainability projects, the bank is integrating community engagement, education, and long-term environmental impact into its rallying initiatives.

“Sustainability is no longer an option—it’s an imperative,” noted Rosalind Gichuru, Group Director of Marketing & Communication, KCB Group PLC. “At KCB, we are embedding sustainability into everything we do, from motorsport sponsorships to banking solutions. Our commitment extends beyond financial services to protecting our environment and ensuring a greener future for Kenya.”

Building on its green legacy, KCB has pledged to plant 3,000 trees in 2025, adding to the 100,000+ trees planted since 2021. The bank’s rally-sponsored drivers, including Karan Patel, Nikhil Sachania, and Evans Kavisi, have actively participated in afforestation programs, reinforcing their dedication to sustainable rallying and environmental action.

As global attention turns to Kenya for the WRC Safari Rally, KCB is proving that high-performance racing and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. Beyond the roar of engines and the thrill of competition, the bank is ensuring that motorsport leaves a greener footprint—one tree at a time.

With KCB leading the charge, the 2025 WRC Safari Rally is set to be more than just a race; it will be a testament to how businesses can integrate sustainability into sports, inspiring future generations to embrace both speed and sustainability.
