Kakuzi Plc is accelerating the adoption of digital technologies across its operations as part of a broader strategy to strengthen business performance and advance climate-smart agriculture.
Kakuzi Managing Director Chris Flowers said the company has established a fully-fledged Digital Agricultural Transformation Department to spearhead the adoption and application of emerging technologies across its operations.
The new department, which will be headed by a Digital Agricultural Transformation Manager, is expected to accelerate the implementation of agricultural technology (Ag-Tech) solutions and support Kakuzi’s transition towards more resilient and sustainable farming practices.
“The Kakuzi Ag-Tech journey is firmly on course and is anchored on several sustainability initiatives and resilient agronomy practices that we continue to embed across all operations,” Flowers said.
He noted that increasing uncertainty and unpredictability in traditional climatic patterns make technology adoption critical to the future of agriculture.
“As we face more and more uncertainty and unpredictability in our traditional climatic patterns, it is essential that agriculture adapts and adopts new technology,” he added.
Kakuzi is already deploying Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning and data analytics to enhance decision-making, improve operational efficiency and strengthen productivity across its agricultural value chain.
At the company’s Macadamia Processing Plant, an AI-powered Intelligent Optical Sorting system is already being used to automate the grading of macadamia nuts. The technology is designed to improve consistency and enhance the quality of processed produce.
Beyond processing, Kakuzi is deploying advanced Ag-Tech solutions in its fields while also strengthening its use of drone technology for security surveillance.
The increased adoption of digital tools forms part of Kakuzi’s wider sustainability and resilience agenda, as the agribusiness sector responds to climate change, changing weather patterns and the need to improve agricultural productivity.
Through the Digital Agricultural Transformation Department, Kakuzi aims to scale technology-driven solutions across its operations, positioning digital innovation as a key component of its long-term agricultural and business development strategy.
