IEBC Selection Panel Concludes Interviews, Final List to Be Submitted to President

1 Mins read

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Selection Panel has concluded interviews for candidates vying for positions at the country’s electoral body. The final phase of the interviews, held on Thursday morning, saw three more candidates interviewed, bringing the total number of applicants for the commissioner roles to 116.

Additionally, 11 individuals have been interviewed for the position of IEBC Chairperson. The Selection Panel is now set to retreat and compile a final list of 11 successful applicants — comprising two nominees for the post of Chairperson and nine for commissioner roles — to be submitted to President William Ruto.

Following this, the President will nominate seven individuals, including one for Chairperson, and forward the names to Parliament for vetting and approval.

The newly appointed commissioners will immediately be tasked with overseeing several pending by-elections and laying the groundwork for the 2027 General Election, marking a critical phase in the country’s electoral preparedness.

The IEBC has remained partially vacant since the previous commissioners exited office, prompting the need for a new team to steer the electoral agenda ahead of the next national polls.

The Selection Panel’s next announcement is expected to outline the names of those recommended for appointment, setting the stage for a new leadership team at the electoral agency
