ICT Authority unveils strategic plan 2024-2027 and announces Connected Africa Summit 2025

The ICT Authority has officially launched its Strategic Plan for 2024-2027, outlining a roadmap to drive the organization’s efforts in implementing key government priorities related to the Digital Superhighway and the creative economy. The plan aims to foster significant advancements in digital literacy, broadband infrastructure, and e-government services.
Speaking at a press event held on Friday, Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and Digital Economy, Dr. Margaret Ndung’u, praised the new strategy as a crucial step in aligning with the National Digital Masterplan 2022-2032.
Dr. Ndung’u emphasized that the strategy is designed to ensure that the benefits of digital evolution reach every corner of the nation. She particularly highlighted the importance of empowering women in rural areas through digital technologies, as they are pivotal to future generations.
“This Strategic Plan includes ambitious goals such as expanding Kenya’s fiber network to cover 100,000 kilometers, establishing 25,000 public Wi-Fi hotspots, and creating 1,450 Digital Village Smart Hubs nationwide. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing connectivity and accessibility to digital services”. said Dr. Ndung’u
Additional she announced that Kenya will host the second edition of the Connected Africa Summit in 2025. “The summit will serve as a platform to align regional and continental ICT policies and will focus on harmonizing efforts to boost Africa’s digital economy”.She added

The Cabinet Secretary reassured stakeholders of the Ministry’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for both national and international investors.
In his remarks, ICT and Digital Economy Principal Secretary Eng. John Tanui emphasized the importance of private sector involvement in the upcoming summit. He called for a greater focus on local manufacturing, software development, and ICT solutions. Tanui highlighted the recent progress in locally manufactured devices and expressed a desire to see increased participation from African innovators.
ICT Authority CEO Stanley Kamanguya underscored the significance of the Connected Africa Summit as a platform for addressing continent-wide ICT challenges. He detailed how the 2024-2027 strategic plan will leverage the summit to enhance the commercialization of existing government ICT infrastructure.
Kamanguya outlined plans to introduce revenue-raising measures that would allow the private sector to utilize and expand on government investments in NOFBI infrastructure, with revenues reinvested to support the strategic plan.
The event was attended by notable figures including Broadcasting and Telecommunication PS Prof. Edward Kisiang’ani, ICT Board Chairman Hon. Sylvanus Maritim, and various ICT sector CEOs, alongside partners and sponsors of the Connected Africa Summit 2024.
The launch of the Strategic Plan 2024-2027 and the announcement of the Connected Africa Summit 2025 mark a significant milestone in Kenya’s journey towards a more connected and digitally empowered Africa.
