Tiaty, Baringo County – The Government of Kenya has officially granted a mining license to Chinsuan International, launching the first-ever diatomite extraction project in Tiaty Constituency. This marks a significant milestone in the country’s extractive industry and a turning point for the economic landscape of the region.
The license handover ceremony was presided over by Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, who described the development as a “game-changer” for the people of Tiaty and a strategic step toward unlocking the region’s vast mineral potential.
“Tiaty Constituency is rich in extractive resources such as diatomite, fluorspar, and rubies,” said CS Joho. “If sustainably harnessed, these resources have the potential to transform the lives of the people of Tiaty and significantly boost the country’s GDP.”
Chinsuan International is expected to begin full-scale operations in July 2025. The project forms part of the government’s broader policy to spur resource-based industrialization and promote inclusive growth, especially in marginalized and historically underdeveloped regions like Tiaty.
The Cabinet Secretary urged the local community to support the project by embracing education, maintaining peace, and working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure long-term social and economic benefits.
“This initiative is not just about mining. It represents a bold step toward sustainable development, economic revival, and regional transformation,” Joho noted.
The diatomite mining project is anticipated to generate employment, enhance local infrastructure, and attract further investment into the area. Once operational, it is expected to elevate Tiaty’s position as a strategic contributor to Kenya’s mining sector and national development goals.
As the country intensifies efforts to unlock its natural resource wealth, Tiaty’s diatomite project stands out as a beacon of opportunity, signaling a new era of prosperity driven by sustainable extraction and community-centered growth.
