The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs has announced the disbursement of Kshs. 3,215,992,000 for the June 2024 payments under the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme.

This substantial allocation, released on Friday, 28th June 2024, is aimed at supporting the most vulnerable members of the Kenyan community.

The Ministry has onboarded 570,263 new beneficiaries, increasing the total number of recipients from 1,037,733 in May 2024 to 1,607,996 in June 2024. This expansion is part of a broader directive from His Excellency President Dr. William Ruto to upscale the Inua Jamii programme to 2.5 million beneficiaries, a goal that will be achieved in phases.

The payment process for the new beneficiaries will commence on Wednesday, 3rd July 2024. Those who have successfully opened bank accounts will be the first to receive their stipends. This initiative aims to cushion the most vulnerable individuals from poverty and hunger, thereby improving their quality of life.

Inua Jamii is a government cash transfer initiative designed to provide financial support to the elderly, orphans, and vulnerable children, and persons with severe disabilities. By offering a regular stipend, the programme seeks to alleviate the harsh conditions faced by these groups and enhance their living standards.

Joseph M. Motari, Principal Secretary, State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the needy and ensuring the sustainability of such vital programmes. He reiterated that the disbursement is a testament to the government’s dedication to social protection and poverty alleviation.

As the programme scales up, it is expected to have a significant positive impact on the lives of millions of Kenyans, helping to build a more inclusive and supportive society
