The government has announced a series of swift and strategic measures to improve access to Nairobi National Park, following a surge in visitor numbers that caused long queues and extended waiting times over the weekend.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Hon. Rebecca Miano acknowledged the inconvenience caused to park-goers and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing visitor experiences at the iconic park.
“We deeply value every visitor who chooses to explore the beauty and wonder of Nairobi National Park. The high turnout reflects Kenya’s growing appeal as a premier tourism and conference destination,” said CS Miano.
The increased footfall comes amid a wave of international meetings and aggressive marketing campaigns that have positioned Kenya as a top travel and business hub. Encouragingly, over 60% of Sunday’s park visitors used the prepaid ticketing system, signaling public readiness for smarter tourism solutions.
To further streamline park access and ease congestion, the Ministry has rolled out key improvements:
Express Lanes – Dedicated entry lanes for prepaid ticket holders to allow quicker park access.
Additional Entry Points – Full operation of East Gate (off Mombasa Road) and Mbagathi Gate (opposite Multimedia University) to reduce pressure at main entrances.
Future Access Plans – Exploration of a new access point along the Southern Bypass, aimed at enhancing convenience for visitors approaching from different parts of the city.
“These enhancements are part of our vision for a world-class, seamless tourism experience that also respects the park’s precious wildlife ecosystem,” CS Miano stated.
She urged visitors to continue embracing digital ticketing via the eCitizen platform (kws.ecitizen.go.ke) for faster and more efficient entry.
As Nairobi National Park continues to attract both domestic and international tourists, the Ministry’s latest interventions are expected to transform the visitor experience — ensuring each trip is not just a visit, but an unforgettable adventure into Kenya’s wild beauty.
