Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital expands capacity with state-of-the-art paediatric ward

Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital has officially launched the construction of a state-of-the-art 19-bed paediatric ward at its Muthaiga facility, aimed at enhancing its capacity to deliver specialized healthcare services for children. Scheduled for completion in 2025, the ambitious project will cost KES 220 million, with a notable KES 40 million personal contribution from Dr. Rasik Kantaria, the Chairman of Prime Bank.
The new facility will boast modern medical technologies and a carefully designed layout focused on clinical excellence, comfort, and child-friendly spaces. Additionally, the ward will provide dedicated areas for parents and guardians, reflecting the hospital’s holistic approach to paediatric care.
In keeping with sustainability priorities, the construction will adhere to rigorous environmental standards, incorporating innovative solutions to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions during both the building phase and day-to-day operations.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Dr. Robert Nyarango, CEO of Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital, highlighted the transformative impact of the project. “This new wing will vastly improve our ability to continue delivering world-class care to children, both locally and internationally.
