A devastating road accident claimed the lives of four individuals on Friday 27th at around 12:30 PM along the Kericho-Awasi Road near Pala area in Nyando Sub-County. The crash involved a private Nissan Vanette carrying five occupants, including the driver.
The vehicle, driven by Evans Otieno, was headed from Kericho towards Awasi when the tragedy struck. According to reports from National Police Service, Otieno lost control of the van, veered off the road, and plunged into a ditch. The impact was fatal for four of the occupants, including the driver. The deceased include two male adults and two female adults, who all succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
One male passenger, aged 29, survived the crash but sustained a fractured left hand. He was rushed to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Police from Awasi Police Station visited the scene promptly and carried out the necessary investigations. The bodies of the deceased were transferred to Ortho Private Morgue, where they will undergo autopsies as investigations continue.
The wreckage of the Nissan Vanette has been towed to the Awasi Police Station for inspection, and authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident under the “Pending Under Investigation” (P.U.I.) category.
This accident highlights the continued concern over road safety on Kenyan highways. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, particularly during the festive season when traffic volumes are higher, and the risk of accidents increases.
