Family of missing Kenyan officer in Haiti faults government for abandonment

The family of a Kenyan police officer who disappeared while on a peacekeeping mission in Haiti is accusing the government of neglect and lack of transparency.
Benedict Kabiru, one of the officers deployed to Haiti for a multinational peacekeeping mission, has been missing for 17 days following an alleged ambush by an armed gang during an operation last month. Since then, his family says they have received little to no information from the relevant authorities.
“We are living in agony. No one is telling us anything,” a family member lamented, speaking from their home. “We have gone to different police stations, written letters, and made endless calls, but all our efforts have hit a dead end.”
The family says their lives have drastically changed since Kabiru’s disappearance, with each passing day bringing more frustration and anxiety. They claim the silence from government officials has deepened their despair and made them feel isolated in their time of need.
While the Kenyan government has not issued an official statement on Kabiru’s status, the family is urging the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Police Service to urgently intervene and offer support.
Kabiru was part of the Kenyan contingent deployed to help stabilize Haiti, a country grappling with gang violence and political unrest. His disappearance has raised concerns about the safety of peacekeepers and the communication channels between the government and affected families.
The family continues to appeal to the authorities for answers and support, holding on to hope that their loved one will be found.
