Equity Life Assurance (Kenya) Limited (ELAK) emerged among the top performers at the AKI Awards 2025, winning two major categories and securing the first runner-up position in another category during the ceremony held on March 6, 2026 at the Carnivore Grounds.
The awards, organized by the Association of Kenya Insurers, marked their 24th edition and were held under the theme “Customer First: Strengthening Agent–Customer Relationships Through Digital Innovation.”
ELAK Wins Best Loss Ratio and Innovation Awards
During the ceremony, ELAK won the Best Loss Ratio Award, recognizing life insurance companies with the best average loss ratio achieved through effective risk management and profitable underwriting.
The company also received the Group Life
Insurance Innovation Award, which celebrates insurers that develop creative and impactful solutions for corporate clients through technology, data, and innovative product design.
Recognition for Group Life Insurance Excellence
In addition to the two wins, ELAK was named First Runner-Up for Group Life Insurance Company of the Year.
The category recognizes insurers that demonstrate excellence in areas such as prudent pricing, strong risk selection, innovative product offerings, customer service standards, timely regulatory submissions, and steady growth in corporate insurance portfolios.
Leadership Applauds Customers and Staff
Speaking after receiving the awards, Calvince Onduru, Deputy Managing Director of Equity Life Assurance (Kenya) Limited, credited customers, leadership, and staff for the company’s achievements.
He said the recognition reflects customers’ trust and the dedication of teams working to develop innovative and reliable insurance solutions.
Onduru added that the company will continue investing in digital innovation to improve accessibility, efficiency, and service delivery for families and businesses across Kenya.
Industry Leaders Call for Customer-Centered Innovation
During the ceremony, Godfrey Kiptum, Insurance Commissioner and CEO of the Insurance Regulatory Authority, congratulated the winners and urged insurers to remain committed to protecting customers despite challenging economic conditions.
Meanwhile, Tom Gitogo, Chairman of the Association of Kenya Insurers Board, emphasized the need for insurers to keep customers at the center of their services while embracing digital transformation.
He noted that stronger collaboration among insurers, agents, and stakeholders would help build a more resilient insurance ecosystem in Kenya.
