Ecobank Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering the next generation through education as it marked this year’s Ecobank Day with a community engagement focused on enhancing learning opportunities for children.
As part of the celebrations, the bank announced the extension of its three-year partnership with the Heritage of Faith and Hope Children Centre and School in Sabaki, Athi River. This year’s initiative includes supporting the construction of a modern science laboratory at the school, reinforcing Ecobank’s mission to advance Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.
Over the past three years, Ecobank Kenya has impacted 137 students at the Centre through the establishment of a fully equipped computer lab, the provision of scholarships, and the donation of essential learning materials.
Speaking during the event, Ecobank Kenya Managing Director Josephine Anan-Ankomah emphasized the importance of investing in education to prepare children for a technology-driven future.
“Our contribution towards the building of the Centre’s science laboratory will go a long way in supporting the children’s development and readiness for the technology-enabled society that we now live in,” she said. “We believe the lab will be critical in opening the children’s minds to the world of possibilities in STEM, bringing out their strengths and sparking interest in new careers.”
In addition to infrastructure development, Ecobank Kenya has sponsored seven students with full secondary school scholarships that will run until 2026. The bank has also continued to provide food supplies and sanitary items to support the school’s daily operations.
“Our impact will extend far beyond the three years of collaboration,” added Ms. Anan-Ankomah. “It will be seen in the digital skills the students acquire, their pursuit of higher education, and the ripple effect this will have on their communities.”
The Founder and Director of the Heritage of Faith and Hope Centre and School, Mrs. Teresiah Waweru, expressed her gratitude to Ecobank for its consistent support.
“We are deeply grateful for the bank’s generosity. The computer lab has bridged the digital gap and ignited innovation among students and teachers. The scholarship programme has also enabled us to meet our obligations and transform lives within the school community,” she said.
Scholarship beneficiary Umi Rehema thanked Ecobank for transforming her life, saying:
“Ecobank has been a dream enabler and a hope carrier for our lives. You didn’t just donate machines; you planted seeds of opportunity. Happy 40th Anniversary, Ecobank!”
This year’s Ecobank Day coincides with the Group’s 40th anniversary and the 13th year of the Ecobank Foundation, marking the conclusion of a three-year Pan-African campaign themed “Transforming Africa Through Education.”
Celebrated annually across 34 African countries, Ecobank Day is the Group’s flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative launched in 2013. It mobilizes Ecobank employees, the Foundation, and partners to address critical community issues such as education, health, and youth empowerment.
Over the past two years, Ecobank has mentored more than 27,000 children and donated over 30 IT laboratories across its African markets. As part of this year’s milestone celebrations, the Group plans to deploy 40 new IT labs and train 40,000 children in essential digital skills, underscoring its enduring commitment to shaping Africa’s future through education.
