DTB empowers over 100 women entrepreneurs with digital and financial literacy training

1 Mins read

More than 100 women running micro-enterprises under the ROSE Women’s Foundation Programme have benefitted from free digital and financial literacy training organized by Diamond Trust Bank (DTB). The training, held at DTB’s head offices in Nairobi, was part of the bank’s International Women’s Day (IWD) celebrations aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs in informal settlements.

The workshop focused on digital literacy, social media marketing, and effective chama (informal savings group) management, equipping women with the skills needed to scale their businesses in the digital age. Industry experts led engaging sessions on brand awareness, audience engagement, and leveraging digital platforms to enhance business growth.

Speaking at the event, Azmaira Thobani, DTB’s Head of Sustainability and Communications, underscored the bank’s commitment to financial inclusion and economic empowerment for women entrepreneurs.

“At DTB, we recognise that empowering women entrepreneurs is key to driving economic growth. Through our financial literacy training programme, we equip them with the necessary digital tools to grow their businesses, create jobs, and contribute to sustainable development,” said Thobani.

For many of the women, the training provided valuable insights into expanding their businesses beyond traditional methods. Attendees learned how to use social media and digital marketing tools to reach wider audiences and increase sales. They were also trained on chama savings and management, including digitising onboarding, personalised wallets, seamless transactions, financial reporting, and chama loan management.

For participants like Jane Thige, the workshop was an eye-opener. “I have always owned a smartphone, but I mostly used it for communication and payments. Today’s session has shown me how powerful digital marketing can be. I now know how to use social media to promote my products, attract more customers, and increase my sales. I am truly grateful to DTB for this opportunity,” she said.

The training aligns with DTB’s long-term mission to support financial inclusion and women’s empowerment by providing them with the knowledge and resources to build sustainable businesses.

The ROSE Women’s Foundation, a faith-based non-profit organisation, plays a vital role in uplifting women in extreme poverty through entrepreneurship and technology. By tracking the progress of women-led businesses, the foundation ensures that economic empowerment extends beyond individual entrepreneurs to impact families and entire communities.

Through initiatives like this, DTB continues to drive economic transformation, fostering a future where women entrepreneurs thrive in the digital economy.
