The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) has officially named Hon. Joab Manyasi as its candidate for the upcoming Malava Constituency by-election, signaling the party’s strategic push to expand its political footprint in Western Kenya.
During a colorful ceremony held at the party’s headquarters in Karen, Nairobi, DNA party leader Hon. Godfrey Kanoti introduced Hon. Manyasi as a “movement, not just a candidate,” lauding his track record in public service, engineering, and youth advocacy.
Hon. Manyasi, a seasoned civil engineer and respected community leader, has deep roots in Malava. He previously vied for the parliamentary seat in 2017 under Ford Kenya and again in 2022 on an ODM ticket. His professional experience spans both Kenya and Uganda, giving him what the party termed “grassroots insight and a people-first agenda.”
“We believe the people of Malava are ready for a new chapter of leadership that puts their aspirations at the heart of governance,” said Kanoti. “Hon. Manyasi embodies the values of our party—integrity, accountability, and servant leadership.”
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Manyasi pledged to champion inclusive governance and amplify the voices of ordinary citizens.
“I come from the soil of Malava,” he said. “I have walked the same roads, stood in the same queues, and experienced the frustration of unfulfilled promises. The people of Malava need a leader who will listen—especially to our farmers, our women, and our youth.”
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) recently declared the Malava parliamentary seat vacant, with a by-election expected to be scheduled later this year.
DNA announced that it will run an issue-based campaign centered on civic education, grassroots engagement, and community-driven dialogue. The event concluded with a symbolic handover of the party’s emblem to Hon. Manyasi, officially launching his campaign.
The unveiling marks a significant step in DNA’s effort to position itself as a credible alternative in Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
