Deepak Rajoriya unmasked: Orchestrating Kenya’s multimillion-dollar tax heist

1 Mins read

Kenya’s economy is reeling from a sophisticated tax evasion scheme orchestrated by Deepak Rajoriya, Director of Oki General Trading Kenya Limited, who has been exposed as the mastermind behind a multimillion-dollar fraud.

Recent Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) raids uncovered a racket involving the illegal importation of perfumes worth over USD 300,000 (KSh 39 million), cleared with a mere KSh 2 million in duty far below the actual tax liability.

Investigations reveal a calculated operation executed through a web of shell companies, including Satnam Limited and Satnam Kenya Investment Limited, designed to falsify import documents and evade scrutiny.

Central to the scheme is Rajoriya’s partnership with Karan Badlani, a director at Satnam Limited, who operated in Kenya for over two and a half years without a valid visa, flouting immigration and tax laws with apparent impunity.

The Rajoriya–Badlani duo allegedly manipulated import paperwork and used shell companies to siphon profits abroad, leaving ordinary Kenyans to bear the tax burden.

Each fraudulent consignment represents stolen public funds—money meant for hospitals, schools, and infrastructure now lining the pockets of fraudsters.

Experts label this as economic sabotage, warning that such schemes undermine Kenya’s already fragile fiscal system. The KRA is under pressure to act decisively. Cosmetic raids are insufficient to deter such brazen fraud, experts argue.

They urge the KRA to impose crippling tax penalties on Oki General Trading, prosecute Rajoriya, Badlani, and their accomplices for fraud, forgery, and economic crimes, and enforce asset seizures while blacklisting their companies from operating in Kenya.

The scandal has sparked outrage, with Kenyans demanding accountability. “This is not business; it’s looting,” said a Nairobi-based economist.

The era of tax evasion masterminds exploiting corporate fronts must end. All eyes are on the KRA to deliver justice and send a clear message: Kenya is not a playground for economic saboteurs
