Detectives from the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Mombasa have apprehended Shedrack Omondi Okindo, popularly known as Hon. Mosquito, for circulating a seditious and inflammatory video on TikTok.
The video, widely shared on August 1, 2025, contained content deemed inciteful, including threats of violence and statements that security officials say posed a danger to public order.
The viral clip quickly sparked nationwide concern, prompting a rapid response from law enforcement agencies.
According to officials, a forensic investigation was immediately launched, leading detectives to trace the suspect to a hideout in the Miritini area of Mombasa County.
“Based on forensic intelligence and digital surveillance, officers tracked down the suspect and effected the arrest without incident,” a senior officer familiar with the case told reporters.
A search conducted at Okindo’s residence unearthed several items raising further suspicion. Among the exhibits recovered were two pairs of tactical combat fatigues, three mobile phones, a notebook containing radical statements including, “We are going to apply guerrilla resistance tactics – Justice to all freedom heroes”, and documents allegedly linked to a little-known political outfit, the Justice Direction Party.
Authorities believe the content of the notebook and associated documents point to a possible attempt to incite unrest or promote subversive political agendas under the guise of activism.
Okindo is currently being held in police custody as he undergoes interrogation and legal processing. Officials say he will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete and charges are formally filed.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the internet is not used as a platform for incitement or threats to national peace and security. The public has also been urged to exercise responsibility when sharing content online.
