Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya is facing a lot of negative feedback from a number of politicians based in Nairobi related to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise that is about to take place.
The MPs, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, have alleged that the CS has cheated Nairobi by clustering the city, and they said that the metropolis should be treated the same way as other counties where it is possible to carry out recruitment at the sub-county level.
They say the arrangement will eliminate many worthy young people from participation and at the same time, raise the probability of the occurrence of illegal practices.
The lawmakers say clustering not only sets Nairobi residents against each other but also makes it possible for someone from another area to sneak in unnoticed. In addition, they claim that this move is raising the risk of graft in the process.
The leaders claim to be ready to use all the political and legal ways to oppose the intended recruitment; among them are going to court and starting a vote of no confidence against CS Tuya in the Parliament.
“Nairobi, just like any other county, is, and its young people are entitled to a fair opportunity. This clustering will only take the advantage away from them,” Director Sifuna stated, maintaining that the Defence Ministry should change the plan.
