Coca-Cola surprises Nairobi commuters with free Matatu rides in “Javv na Coke” campaign

Coca-Cola spread joy and relief across Nairobi on Tuesday morning as it launched its “Javv na Coke” campaign, surprising thousands of commuters with free matatu rides. Starting bright and early at 6 a.m., the initiative provided passengers with a refreshing Coke in exchange for just Ksh 20 for a returnable bottle, offering free rides to over ten destinations across the city.
The campaign, which operated at Ngara stage, saw commuters heading to popular areas such as Westlands, Uthiru, Kangemi, Limuru, and Wangige enjoy a welcome break from the usual daily commute costs. Coca-Cola’s move was particularly well-timed, providing much-needed financial relief during the traditionally tough month of January.
“I couldn’t believe it! I usually pay Ksh 120 for a round trip to Limuru, but today, I saved all that and got a Coke instead,” said Florence Waweru, a delighted commuter. “God is great!”
For many, the surprise was both a treat and a blessing. Joyce Akinyi, a vendor from Wangige, expressed her gratitude: “I saved Ksh 40 after Coca-Cola paid my bus fare. This initiative is a real blessing, especially with how high expenses are in January.”
Justus Ndunda, a frequent traveler between Ngara and Limuru, was equally appreciative. “I heard about the campaign at the stage and grabbed the chance,” he said. “I usually spend Ksh 60, but today I saved Ksh 40 and got to enjoy a refreshing Coke.”
Though it remains unclear whether Coca-Cola will extend the “Javv na Coke” campaign to other stages in Nairobi, the initiative has already sparked excitement and anticipation among residents. Many are hopeful that more such surprises will follow, bringing more smiles to the city during the ongoing month.
Coca-Cola’s thoughtful gesture has certainly added a touch of fun and generosity to the daily grind, offering commuters a delightful start to their day. As the company continues to surprise and delight, Nairobians are eagerly awaiting what’s next.
