Carrefour’s first retail academy opens in Kenya to shape the future of shopping

Majid Al Futtaim, the exclusive operator of Carrefour in Kenya, has unveiled its first-ever Retail Business School in Nairobi, marking a significant step toward nurturing talent and revolutionizing the retail sector in the country.

The new school is poised to transform the industry by providing over 1,500 Carrefour Kenya employees with tailored training annually. It offers 12 comprehensive programmes designed to enhance technical expertise, leadership abilities, and customer service skills, aligning with Kenya’s broader goals of economic and social advancement.

At the official launch event, which drew prominent business leaders, government officials, and senior members of Majid Al Futtaim’s leadership team, Gunther Helm, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Retail, highlighted the company’s dedication to developing local talent.

“The launch of the Retail Business School in Kenya reflects Majid Al Futtaim’s unwavering commitment to investing in our people and empowering local talent,” Helm stated. “By providing world-class training and development opportunities, we are not only raising the bar for the retail industry but also contributing meaningfully to Kenya’s economic growth and prosperity for future generations.”

The school’s curriculum encompasses a broad spectrum of learning, including retail technical skills, customer experience enhancement, and leadership development, alongside programmes aimed at localising best practices. By integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on training, the initiative seeks to build a skilled workforce adept in both online and in-store retail operations.

Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa of Majid Al Futtaim Retail, reiterated the company’s commitment to Kenya’s development objectives, noting that the initiative aligns closely with the country’s national economic transformation plans.

Beyond employee training, the Retail Business School also extends its vision to Carrefour’s supply chain, fostering a ripple effect of expertise and innovation across the retail ecosystem.
