Carrefour revamps Langata school: A new chapter for young minds through the “Round Up Initiative”

Carrefour Kenya, operated by Majid Al Futtaim, has successfully completed a KES 6.3 million renovation of Langata Road Primary and Junior Secondary School. This initiative is part of Carrefour’s “Round Up Your Bill” corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, which encourages customer donations to foster community development.
The renovation project, which benefits over 550 students, involved extensive upgrades to the school’s classrooms and corridors, including tiling and painting, along with essential infrastructure repairs. This transformation aims to create a more conducive learning environment, thereby enhancing educational outcomes for the students.
Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, emphasized the company’s commitment to education and community support. “At Majid Al Futtaim, we truly believe that a bright future begins with nurturing young minds,” he stated. “Through the Round Up Your Bill initiative, we are honoured to collaborate with our valued customers to extend support to the students of Langata Road Primary and Junior Secondary School, providing them with an enhanced learning environment that will help them accelerate their growth and achieve success.”
The Langata Road refurbishment is part of a broader array of community support efforts undertaken by Carrefour this year. The company has also donated KES 573,000 in food hampers to 450 households affected by flooding in Mathare and installed a KES 360,000 water harvesting system at the Lutheran Church Special School for the Mentally Challenged in Kisumu. Additionally, a KES 1.8 million renovation of a basketball court and skating rink at the Shangilia Mtoto wa Afrika children’s home in Kangemi has been completed.
Since its launch in 2016, the “Round Up Your Bill” initiative has significantly impacted local communities, supporting various projects aimed at improving the lives of children and the elderly. In 2023 alone, Carrefour contributed over KES 15 million towards essential supplies and infrastructure enhancements for vulnerable groups.
As Carrefour continues to engage its customers in philanthropic activities, the Langata Road project stands as a testament to the positive change that can be achieved through collective community efforts.
