Britam General Insurance has partnered with Hotpoint Appliances and MIC Global Risks to introduce an innovative All-Risks insurance cover automatically bundled with select home appliances purchased at Hotpoint stores nationwide and online.
The 12-month cover, activated at the point of purchase and offered at no additional cost, protects customers against accidental damage, power surges, fire, water damage, theft, burglary, transit loss, as well as political violence and terrorism.
Eligible appliances include refrigerators, freezers, televisions, audio systems, laundry machines, dishwashers, cookers (excluding table-tops), and room air conditioners.
Under the initiative, customers will also receive a repair-or-replace guarantee aimed at ensuring quick restoration of damaged items. A digital insurance certificate is issued at checkout, with claims processed seamlessly through Britam’s digital claims portal.
Britam General Insurance CEO & Principal Officer James Mbithi said the partnership aligns with Britam’s 2025 strategy of driving insurance uptake through digital-first, lifestyle-centric solutions. “Most consumers do not proactively purchase insurance for household appliances, yet these items are essential to daily living. By embedding cover into the purchase journey, we make protection accessible, seamless and relevant,” he said.
Hotpoint Appliances CEO Ravi Kanani noted that the collaboration elevates customer experience by offering value beyond the sale of appliances. “Our customers are at the heart of everything we do. This partnership ensures they enjoy confidence and long-term protection for every appliance they bring home,” he added.
MIC Global Risks COO and Principal Officer Puneet Chawla emphasized the company’s commitment to innovating around customer needs. “By working with Britam and Hotpoint, we are making protection effortless from the moment of purchase,” he said.
The initiative comes amid rising demand for household electronics, with Kenya’s appliance and consumer electronics market projected to grow by 11.4% in 2025, according to the KNBS 2025 Economic Outlook.
Research ICT Africa estimates that over 40% of urban households now own at least one major appliance, a figure expected to exceed 55% by 2027, signalling growing need for affordable protection.
The partners will each leverage their strengths: Hotpoint will handle customer support and product verification, MIC Global Risks will provide support to ensure seamless service delivery, and Britam will underwrite the policy and oversee claims processing.
