Beatrice Soy clinches victory at inaugural Dr. Peter Ndegwa and friends golf tournament

Beatrice Soy emerged victorious in the inaugural Dr. Peter Ndegwa and Friends Golf Tournament held at the prestigious Muthaiga Golf Club. Playing off handicap 27, Soy delivered an exceptional performance, scoring an impressive 45 Stableford points to claim the overall title in a competitive field of over 200 golfers.

Soy, Muthaiga’s Lady Vice-Captain, showcased remarkable consistency on the greens, posting 23 points on the front nine and 22 on the back nine. Her stellar performance not only secured her the overall trophy but also earned her the Nearest to the Pin award in the ladies’ category.

“This is a proud moment for me,” Soy said during the award ceremony. “Winning the first-ever Dr. Peter Ndegwa and Friends tournament is such an honor. I teed off early after requesting a schedule change due to prior commitments, and here I am, a winner! I hope this becomes a permanent fixture in our golf calendar.”

The day-long tournament, held in celebration of Safaricom’s 24 years of transforming lives, was a mix of competitive play and camaraderie among partners, corporates, and business leaders.

In the men’s category, Benson Theuri edged out Nawfal Cockar by a single point, scoring 41 points to claim victory, while young talent Ishaan Gidomal shone in the juniors’ category with an impressive 44 points.

Other notable wins included Joan K’anjenjo in the ladies’ category with 35 points, narrowly beating Florence Marangu’s 34 points. Millicent Mello of Railways Golf Club and Allan Kirui of Nyanza Golf Club topped the guest category with 37 and 36 points, respectively.

The Longest Drive contest saw Beatrice Soy and Chege Njoroge crowned winners, while Safaricom’s Chief Business Development and Strategy Officer, Michael Mutiga, took home the Safaricom Staff Prize.

The festive spirit was further amplified when Safaricom CEO Dr. Peter Ndegwa gifted sheep to Muthaiga Golf Club caddies as part of Safaricom’s Sambaza Furaha campaign, aimed at spreading joy this season.

Reflecting on the success of the tournament, Dr. Ndegwa expressed gratitude to participants: “It was heartwarming to see over 200 golfers and friends come together to celebrate Safaricom’s 24 years of success. This day of connection, golf, and appreciation underscores the partnerships that have been pivotal to our journey.”
